Appliqué and Embroidered Fragment, Stretched and Mounted: C19th Rescht, Indian embroidery worked in split stitchAn fine fragment panel of appliqud and embroidered wool broadcloth from Rescht, Persia first half 19th century. Hand embroidered in silks onto a fine wool broadcloth, possibly from the Stroud woollen mills, where it is still produced to this day. The appliqu pieces are carefully and accurately inset into the ground rather than sitting on top, a skilled technique for which Rescht is famous.
