Trona Sunrise Horses the mountains stepping back intoThe Trona Pinnacles are an odd field of over 500 tufa towers in the Mojave Desert, off the highway between Ridgecrest and Death Valley. Tufa forms underwater at the seam between freshwater springs and the alkaline water of a desert lake calcium carbonate precipitates out of solution and builds these vertical structures.
