Pen Caled Year:2 YR Discovered by William Dabinett inA Welsh mid season cooking and cider apple. Round green fruit with a red flush and some russet and firm flesh. A good blender with no tannins. Starts to flower mid April and drops around October. Translates as 'hard head' possibly referring to the firmness of the fruit. Found in St. Dogmaels, Pembrokeshire, originally planted by the Trion monks at the abbey for the purposes of cider making. Permission to use photograph by Philip James (Dinefwr
