Lay of the Land is a fine card, highly playable but not super exiting, it is never powerful or able to offer a big payoff

Its basically an Explosive Vegetation that leaves you with a 3/2 instead of a second Rampant Growth

The best discard commanders are the ones that turn it into something beneficial, although its not always just you or your opponent whos throwing away their hand

While he can certainly perform admirably within the context of this precon, I believe that youll probably get more mileage out of this deck by replacing Szarekh, the Silent King with one of the other commanders if you plan to upgrade this deck to play in higher power tables

Personally I think Im going to grab the Endless Punishment precon and a couple of singles
