Because Gen 1 is still the most popular generation of Pokmon ever made, this set became extremely popular, mostly because of nostalgia for the classic Pokmon, but also because many cards feature beautiful artwork on full-art cards like the Special Illustration Rare Charizard ex (199/165)

While both games have cards with effects that the players have to strategize around and plan ahead, MTG has more mechanics and rules the players have to keep in mind, such as debating whether or not to attack with a minion, because if it attacks, it cannot block on the opponent's turn
