There are plenty of discard synergy pieces in Red that make all our discarding even more powerful: we have plenty more ways to turn our cycling / looting into card advantage with Containment Construct, Conspiracy Theorist, Bag of Holding, Currency Converter, and Veronica, Dissident Scribe
All round the card is very good at getting things dead at all stages of the game and it has about as high a floor as you can hope for in an otherwise playable removal spell
MacCready has never been reprinted since Universes Beyond: Fallout released in March of last year (and likely wont be, given the legal hoops of licensing IP), so its had the most to gain from this surge in demand
