Unlike spells that give +1/-1 for one mana, Defensive Stance cannot outright kill small creatures
In early appearances, you never saw a card say Create a Clue token
often, youre going to have a turn two mana rock (like a Dimir Signet or Planar Atlas), which youll look to follow up setting up with a Nazgl or engine piece like Archmage Emeritus or Talrand
I think there are better things to do for 4 mana in EDH though, but if you have a lot of Clue stuff going on I wouldn't bat an eye at it
